China outlines cooperation agenda at Davos
China addressed the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, which opened under the theme A Spirit of Dialogue, and framed its public message around cooperation amid visible differences in international approaches.
The Davos program presented contrasting perspectives, with one favoring unilateralism and protectionism and the other favoring multilateralism and cooperation; in that setting Vice-Premier He Lifeng delivered China’s position, reiterating commitments to high-quality development and high-level opening-up.
He outlined policy positions and actions that included expanding market access, stabilizing foreign trade and investment, and fostering a transparent, predictable and rules-based business environment; he also emphasized support for the multilateral trading system centered on the World Trade Organization and opposition to protectionism and unilateral coercive measures.
He called on parties to strengthen policy coordination, to safeguard the stability of global industrial and supply chains, and to promote inclusive, resilient and sustainable development; he said China would leverage its superlarge market to expand imports and to create new opportunities for companies worldwide, and he described China as a trading partner rather than an adversary.
China Daily said “A Spirit of Dialogue.” China Daily said “dialogue.” China Daily said “decoupling.”
Vice-Premier He Lifeng said China would continue to expand market access, stabilize foreign trade and investment, and foster a transparent, predictable and rules-based business environment.
