BT completes sale of its wholesale and enterprise unit in Ireland to Speed Fibre Group
BT has completed the sale of its wholesale and enterprise business unit in Ireland to Speed Fibre Group while maintaining an operational presence in the country.
The company continues to provide connectivity, cloud, and security services primarily to multinational corporations and large organizations. Post-transaction, BT retains more than 300 employees who support these clients from offices in Dublin and other regional locations, also managing the Emergency Call Answering Service there. In addition, over 100 personnel operate BT's global procurement function, BT Sourced, in Dublin.
The transaction was approved by the Irish Competition and Consumer Protection Commission and also included a long-term agreement for BT and Speed Fibre Group to mutually source connectivity services for their customers.
BT International CEO Building Automation System (BAS) Burger commented, “We are delighted to conclude this successful transaction which represents the next step in our strategy to become a more agile and focused business. We will continue to invest in this important market for our multinational customers to provide them with secure multi-cloud connectivity and deliver on our purpose to connect for good.” Advisers for BT included Citi, PwC, and Simmons & Simmons, while Speed Fibre Group and Cordiant were represented by McCann Fitzgerald, PwC, and Matheson.
The sale transaction first announced in early February 2025 marks an adjustment in BT's business structure within Ireland.
