Azure Managed Redis now generally available on Microsoft Azure
Azure Managed Redis is ready for production workloads, while delivering better performance at a lower cost than previous Redis services on Azure.
Azure Managed Redis is now generally available as a fully managed, in-memory datastore integrated within the Azure ecosystem. It is designed to effectively handle production workloads at scale. Previously, Azure Managed Redis had been in preview since last November.
By providing up to 99.999% availability with multi-region Active-Active capabilities, Azure Managed Redis achieves low latency globally and is positioned as a cost-efficient option among Redis services on Azure.
The service enables users to access the latest data infrastructure features. Currently, users can access Redis 7.4, with future access to Redis 8 expected soon.
Customers migrating from any Azure Cache for Redis tier to Azure Managed Redis will experience improvements such as:
- Performance: Introduction of various new data structures, a scalable Redis Query Engine, and advanced capabilities for multi-model, real-time operations.
- Scale and security: Enhanced availability, scalability options, and compliance with numerous regulatory standards.
- Access to Redis and Azure ecosystems: Integration with tools across both ecosystems and access to libraries and management flows for improved development efficiency.
Rowan Trollope, CEO of Redis, remarked that Azure Managed Redis is essential for developers working on high-performance applications. Balan Subramanian, Microsoft Partner Director of PM, Developer Division at Microsoft, noted that the service supports the demands of cloud-native applications.
Users of Azure Cache for Redis can migrate easily to Azure Managed Redis, gaining numerous features previously available only in higher-tier options.
Azure Managed Redis offers four tiers for users to choose from, three of which are focused on in-memory data, including options like Memory Optimized, Balanced, and Compute Optimized for various workload requirements. One tier, Flash Optimized, stores data in-memory and on-disk, allowing for scalable Caching with reduced performance.
