AT&T launches amiGO Jr. Phone for children
AT&T launched the AT&T amiGO Jr. Phone, a child-focused smartphone intended to give parents more choice and control when they decided to provide a first phone for their children.
The company cited survey figures that 60% of parents of children up to age 12 considered a smartphone a safety essential and that a majority preferred to remain with their own wireless provider when buying a child’s first device. AT&T also said 70% of parents wanted access to calling in an emergency and real time location tracking for their children.
The announcement described the free AT&T amiGO app as a tool parents used from their iOS or Android phones to manage screentime, apps and settings, and listed features such as location sharing, Safe Zones, and Schedules to limit distractions during school hours. The release also described the amiGO Jr. Watch 2 as more durable with native messaging, games, and rewards.
AT&T said the amiGO Jr. Phone was built in collaboration with Samsung, combining Samsung’s hardware expertise with AT&T technology. New and existing customers could purchase the amiGO Jr. Phone and the amiGO Jr. Watch 2 through att.com, the myAT&T app, and AT&T retail stores, both at a $2.99 per month price with no trade-in required; the release noted installment plan and service terms for eligibility and credits.
“Putting customers at the center of our business means anticipating what comes next – not just responding to what already exists. As smartphones become a daily necessity, parents have made it clear they need better tools to help their children navigate the digital world safely,” said Erin Scarborough, SVP, Revenue Management & Commercialization, AT&T.
