Applied Materials collaborates with Apple and Texas Instruments to enhance U.S. semiconductor production capabilities.

Applied Materials has announced a collaboration with Apple and Texas Instruments to bolster U.S. semiconductor manufacturing capabilities. The initiative includes supplying chipmaking equipment from its Austin, Texas facility to support the production of semiconductors for Apple.

This development is part of a broader investment, as Applied Materials is contributing over $200 million to a new manufacturing facility in Arizona. This forms part of a more than $400 million commitment to expand its U.S. manufacturing presence in the last five years.

Gary Dickerson, President and CEO of Applied Materials, highlighted the need to strengthen the nation's semiconductor production, especially considering advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI). He stated, “Strengthening America’s semiconductor leadership has never been more important than in today’s AI era.”

Apple’s COO, Sabih Khan, indicated that this partnership aligns with a larger $600 billion initiative designed to boost U.S. manufacturing and job creation. Mohamad Yunus from Texas Instruments remarked on the company's ability to provide low-cost manufacturing solutions for essential semiconductor components.

Company Footprint

Applied Materials maintains the largest U.S. manufacturing footprint among semiconductor equipment firms, operating facilities in Texas, Massachusetts, and Montana, alongside the new site in Arizona. The company anticipates that the Chandler, Arizona facility will create around 200 jobs, focusing on Research and Development (R&D) (R7D) in semiconductor technology.
