Advantech launches AMAX IoT Control Platform for automation solutions

Advantech has introduced the AMAX Internet of Things (IoT) Control Platform, designed to unify programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), and IoT functionalities. This solution targets the complexities faced in traditional automation setups, with a focus on enhancing real-time performance for manufacturing and energy sectors.

Product Overview

The AMAX platform consolidates various functionalities into a single PC-based environment by utilizing EtherCAT industrial Ethernet and real-time operating systems. This approach permits microsecond-level precision, relevant for industries such as semiconductor manufacturing and vision-integrated production systems. The platform is built on the CODESYS framework and is compatible with both Windows and Linux environments, facilitating the transition from existing Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems.

Controller Variants

The AMAX family consists of three types of controllers, each tailored for specific needs: Panel Controllers with IntelĀ® processors aimed at factory automation, Industrial PC Controllers suited for complex manufacturing tasks, and Embedded Controllers that provide compact designs for edge data acquisition. All variants are compatible with a wide range of legacy automation systems through comprehensive EtherCAT I/O expansion.

Real-time Performance

Focusing on real-time capabilities, the AMAX platform integrates technologies like IntelĀ® Time Coordinated Computing (TCC) to ensure robust performance. Advantech's engineering team conducts system tuning and verification to optimize operational efficiency.

Software Environment

AMAX Studio offers an integrated development environment for device configuration, program development, and diagnostics, supporting numerous IoT automation devices and industrial protocols like EtherCAT and Modbus. This functionality aims to decrease development time and costs.
