ABI Research ranks Schneider Electric as top provider in energy grid digitalization technology
A recent Competitive Ranking from Application Binary Interface (ABI) Research identifies Schneider Electric as the top provider in energy grid digitalization technology, outpacing Siemens AG and GE Vernova. This evaluation considers various factors, including innovation, implementation, and the strengths of technologies like Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) and Distributed Energy Resource (DER) Management Systems (DERMS).
The analysis evaluated eight technology vendors based on their grid management solution comprehensiveness and their partnerships with transmission and distribution operators. The assessment also included the adoption rates among utilities, sustainability strategies, and product synergy.
The findings categorize vendors into Market Leaders, Mainstream, and Followers. The Market Leaders identified are Schneider Electric, Siemens AG, and GE Vernova. Mainstream vendors consist of Hitachi Energy and ABB, while Followers include Mitsubishi Electric Power Products Inc. and Honeywell.
Daniel Burge, a Research Analyst at ABI Research, stated that the complexities of electricity management driven by capacity issues and distributed renewable resources heighten the need for advanced technologies. He highlighted the necessity of partnerships with vendors able to provide comprehensive digital solutions for improved operational efficiency.
Schneider Electric's leading position is attributed to its comprehensive portfolio in energy trading and cybersecurity, along with its focus on sustainability. Companies like Hitachi Energy are advancing in this sector with innovations such as the Nostradamus Artificial Intelligence (AI) solution.
Burge remarked that energy network managers face significant challenges, indicating that effective digitalization requires a range of high-quality solutions and strong partnerships to handle grid capacity and renewable energy management.
